Selection Policy
Applications for places at UWC Colleges are facilitated via three (2) channels:
1. National Committee (UWC TT)
The UWC of Trinidad & Tobago is responsible for the selection and nomination of suitable applicants for admission to colleges for the places offered. The Selection Policy is provided as an attachment below to provide full information. Please take the opportunity to review it.
Some key issues to consider include:
Age of the Applicant
Most colleges have strict minimum age requirements often dictated by local laws. Students generally should be between 15 and 17 years old when they apply and be at least 16 by school entry. In special cases and with the permission of the relevant colleges (e.g. in the case of refugees), applicants may be slightly older.
Citizenship and Residency
Students applying for scholarships allocated must be citizens or, at the time of application, they must have been residents of Trinidad and Tobago for no less than three (3) years.
Applications from Relatives
Applications from close relatives of Members of UWC TT can be accepted, but in the case of close relatives of officers of the National Committee, the Officer concerned must step down from their post until the full selection process is complete. The Officer may be reinstated only when the full selection process has been completed.
Repeat Applications
The Selection Committee will accept applications from students in two consecutive years if the age requirements allow them to do so.
Availability
Applicants are expected to be available at all relevant stages of the selection process.
Application Fee
There is no application fee.
Selections
Ranking of applicants is based on selection day activities, information on application forms and school transcripts. Selection is merit based.
On Selection Day, applicants will normally participate in group activities, essay writing and at least one round of individual interviews by a panel.
Applicant’s performance will be rated by individual committee members using the UWCTT selection rubric which gives equal weighting to academic achievement/potential and UWC criteria.
Nominations
The Selection Officer will match the potential nominees with the college places on offer based on (in order of priority)
(i) selection day ranking,
(ii) financial need (taking into consideration the amount the family indicates that they are able to contribute)
(iii) college preference
Please note that UWC Colleges reserve the right to accept or reject nominations and make the final decisions about the level of financial assistance that will be offered (if any).
2. UWC Global Selection Programme
The UWC Global Selection Programme (GSP) is an application route for a limited number of places at some UWC colleges. When you apply via GSP:
- You will be able to select the UWC school(s) or college(s) you would like to attend*
- You will need to ensure that you can pay the full tuition fees.
*Please note UWC Adriatic, UWC Robert Bosch College and UWC South East Asia are not participating in the GSP for entry 2025.
The UWC Global Selection Programme is coordinated by UWC International and the UWC schools, in close cooperation with the UWC national committees. Experienced UWC selection volunteers from across the movement participate in different stages of the selection process.
Please note that GSP route is for those who do not require financial assistance to attend UWC and applicants who choose the GSP route, forgo financial assistance.
